Attention BP Employees,
It is no secret the start of 2022 has been a wild ride for investors. With the war breaking out in Ukraine, inflation spiking and shocks to global supply chains, volatility has returned to the forefront of the equity markets. As challenging as it may be, it is important to note that during periods of volatility investors should remain focused on corporate earnings, which are currently strong and are ultimately what drives stock prices over the long run.
With this is mind, we are recommending staying the course, and are not making any changes from last quarter’s allocations. Despite the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the economic circumstances remain largely the same which is why we continue to maintain our core concentrations in large-sized US companies, favoring domestic stocks over international and emerging markets companies.
Sometimes choosing to do nothing in turbulent times can often turn out to be the wisest path an investor can follow. When faced with alarming news or in highly volatile markets, some investors feel obliged to act. Stressful times like these can provoke knee-jerk reactions, causing investors to lose sight of their long-term investment strategy.
For our clients, investment portfolios we manage for you at TD Ameritrade already reflect our market perspective. Your BP 401(k) however will need your attention as we do not update these accounts for clients automatically.
