Capstone Wealth Advisors is pleased to release our newly updated 401(k) model allocations for Q1 2023. With a widely anticipated recession looming in 2023, you may be wondering what you can do to navigate the increasingly choppy waters of the stock market. For starters, we highly recommend discussing your individual situation with one of CWA’s experienced Financial Advisors to make sure the risk you are taking is appropriate given your individual long-term goals, risk tolerance, and time horizons. We cannot overstate the importance of making sure your investments align with your overall objectives, especially as we head into what could potentially be a very volatile year for financial markets across the globe.
For those of you concerned about what a continued economic decline could have on your investments and are inclined to reduce your overall risk, these allocations are designed to do just that. However, it should be noted that changing your investment allocation does come with risks on both sides of the equation. If unexpected events impact financial markets in a positive way (like a sudden end to the war in Ukraine), stocks could move abruptly higher without warning – meaning that if you reduce your exposure to stocks and they begin to bounce back, then you would not be participating in those moves to the same degree as you were before. Alternatively, if the market keeps deteriorating, reducing the risk of your investments may insulate you to varying degrees from additional losses depending on the level of risk reduction you ultimately decide to implement.
As noted above, we cannot overstate the importance of having an experienced, professional financial advisor help you determine what is the best approach for you given your individual risk tolerance, time horizon and long-term goals, etc. This is a free service offered by our firm to all HF Sinclair employees and retirees.
