ATTN BP Employees,
Interest rates impacting your BP RAP (BP Pension) dropped slightly over the last month. However, we estimate the Treasury rate and Corporate Segment rates will rise slightly over the next month. As we noted previously, it’s important to understand that these expectations can be subject to change based on new economic developments and shifts in the Fed’s policy stance.
In May, Fed Chair Jerome Powell, delivered on his promise by increasing short-term rates by 0.25%. “Economic activity expanded at a modest pace in the first quarter,” he said at the press conference following the meeting. “Job gains have been robust in recent months, and the unemployment rate has remained low. Inflation remains elevated. The U.S. banking system is sound and resilient.” Despite Powell’s confident tone, investors are cautious. The Standard & Poor’s 500 index is essentially unchanged in the past 12 months, and investors hold near-record levels of cash.
